Scouting for Food
March 3, 2012

Scouting for Food, the food drive for local food pantries, is a one-day good turn effort conducted by 2,500 Scouts and leaders, collecting food for hungry people in central and northeast Missouri.

On March 3, 2012 starting at 9 am Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will collect food donations after 9 a.m. and deliver it to a food pantry in the community. From February 25 to March 3 residents are reminded to fill a bag of food and leave it on their front porch for a Scout to pick up through a heavy media campaign.

An estimated 100,000 pounds of food (50 tons) will be collected by the Scouts and given to food pantries in their community. Food pantries are low at this time of year because food collected during November and December has already been given out to those in need.

Roughly 90,000 door hangers are distributed by Scouts throughout our 33 county region between February 24 and March 3.

In addition to learning to help others, Scouts impact the less fortunate in their community by participating in this program. The counties we serve include: Adair, Audrain, Benton, Boone, Callaway, Camden, Chariton, Cole, Cooper, Gasconade, Howard, Linn, Knox, Lewis, Macon, Maries, Marion, Miller, Moniteau, Montgomery, Monroe, Morgan, Osage, Pettis, Pike, Putnam, Ralls, Randolph, Saline, Schuyler, Scotland, Shelby, Sullivan.
