Camp Progress

On Thursday May 5th, the sale of Camp Thunderbird was closed. With the completion of the sale, the Great Rivers Council can now move forward with the execution of our long-range camp facilities plan which was laid out beginning in 2009 under the guidance of the volunteer long-range planning committee. This plan will include multiple developments at what could become the Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation featuring Camp Hohn for Boy Scouts and a camp to be named for our Cub Resident Camp program. Across the nation, most Cub Resident Camp facilities are operated at “converted” Boy Scout Camps. Our new facility will be one of a very few designed and built specifically with the needs of Cub Scouts in mind. Other anticipated developments at camp include a swimming facility, shooting ranges, an expanded COPE and climbing program, training centers, more facilities available for year-round use and an expanded waterfront facility. Look for more information regarding camp developments and our forthcoming capital campaign which will raise the needed funds to support these developments. We welcome your input as we move forward with these plans. Feel free to direct any suggestions to your district camping chair or district executive.
