Welcome to the Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation Merit Badge College 2020 registration page!  Here you will find all the information you need regarding signing up for merit badges, merit badges lists & prequisites, & camping options. Please review prices below. 

Please note that as of 9/23 Sunday courses are completely booked. As such, Satruday Only registrations are the only options available.

Be sure to order an optional event t-shirt and/or Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation neck gaiter. T-shirts are $15 each and neck gaiters are $5 each.

Social distancing guidelines will be followed and the use of masks is encouraged.  Masks will be required in certain areas. You are welcome to provide your own or you may purchase a Lake of the Ozarks Scout Reservation Neck Gaiter (above)

Pre-Event Medical Form (all attendees must fill out and turn in at check-in)

Camping: Camping will be available Friday & Saturday evening.  Please indicate in the registration what nights you will be camping or if you will not be camping. Once registered, camp sites will be assigned. You will receive notification of your campsite approximately a week before the event. Please contact Camp Director, Dennis Kerns, if you have any questions. 

MERIT BADGE LIST & PREREQUISITES

The following is a comprehensive list of all merit badges currently being offered. Badges may be added on later. You will also find the perquisites listed for each merit badge. If there is a prerequisite listed, Scouts must complete the prerequisites before the day of the event and bring proof of completion to the class (i.e. the actual work which was completed/pre-requisites completed in the actual workbook and brought with them); in order to receive a full sign-off. If the Scout does not complete these prerequisites, he or she will not complete the badge and will receive a partial which will require follow up with a different counselor after the event. Proof of having completed pre-requisite work WILL BE RETAINED by the counselors and kept with event records, so BE SURE to keep a copy for yourself beforehand.

Merit Badges & Course Capacities

Prerequisites List

American Heritage: Requirement 3C should be completed prior to class.

Archaeology: Requirement 7 should be completed prior to the event and Scouts should be prepared to discuss with the class what they did to fulfill the requirement.

Archery: There are no prerequisites for this merit badge.

Camping: Scouts will need to complete 15 nights of camping (6 nights must be done in a long-term setting i.e. Summer Camp). If they have already done so, please bring verification.

Chess: There are no pre-requisites for this merit badge.

Citizenship in the Community: Requirements 3A, 3B, 4A, 4B, 5, 7A, 7B, 7C, & 8 should be completed prior to class. Scouts should bring a map of their local community (2A) and be prepared to discuss their local government (2B).

Citizenship in the Nation: Requirements 2A-D (choose one), 3, 6 and 8 should be completed prior to class and Scouts should be prepared to report on them.  Requirement 2A will be completed by the group during class.

Citizenship in the World: Requirements 3A & B and requirement 7 should be prepared prior to class and Scouts should be ready to discuss them during class.

Climbing: Bring leather gloves

Communication: Requirements 2A or 2B (choose one and be prepared to report on it), and requirements 5 and 8 must be done in advance. -- Half of Requirement 3, which requires them to write a five-minute speech then deliver it in a meeting of the group. They'll need to write the speech in advance, then they can deliver it during the class. -- Half of Requirement 4, which requires them to interview someone then prepare and deliver an introduction of the person as if they were going to be a guest speaker. These interviews also would need to be done in advance, then they can do the introductions during the class.

Cooking: Requirements 4, 5a & 5b (bring to discuss), & 6 should be completed before this class.  

Disabilities Awareness: There are no pre-requisites for this merit badge

Electricity: Requirements 2 & 9a should be completed before this class.  

Electronics: There are no pre-requisites for this merit badge

Emergency Preparedness: Requirements 1, 2B-C, 6C, 7, 8 and 9A should be completed prior to class. Bring proof of earning the First Aid merit badge, emergency service pack, and family kit for 8C.

Engineering: Requirements 1, 2, and 4 should be completed prior to class. Bring proof of meeting, deconstruction, research, and any other evidence of completed requirements. 

Environmental Science: Requirements 1, one activity from 3d, one activity from 3f, & 4 should be completed before this class. 

First Aid: Scout must ensure they are adequately prepared to discuss Requirement 1, Requirement 5 must be completed prior to class, and Scouts should be prepared to complete requirements 6 & 7 based upon that design during class discuss it during class. 

Fishing: Req. 10 should be done before (fish can be purchased at grocery store)

Fly-Fishing: Req. 11 should be done before (fish can be purchased at grocery store)

Genealogy:  Requirements 3 & 6 should be completed prior to class.

Geocaching: 3. Explain the following terms used in geocaching: waypoint, log, cache, accuracy, difficulty and terrain ratings, attributes, trackable. (This part will be done in class, do the second part italicized at home). Research 5 geocaching terms not listed above and bring that research to class. Requirement 7: With your parent’s permission*, go to www.geocaching.com. Type in your city and state to locate public geocaches in your area. Share the posted information about three of those geocaches with your counselor. Identify 3 caches near your home location. Make sure to write down the GCcode (code at top right of cache page). With parents permission, sign up on the website, find one cache and log it online. (finding a cache can be done after class but the scout will need to find a counselor to sign off on that requirement.) Write down the username they created on geocaching.com and bring to class.

Indian Lore: There are no pre-requisites for this merit badge

Medicine: 1) Print off the Merit badge worksheet, bring it to class. 2) Review the Badge Requirements:https://boyscouttrail.com/boy-scouts/meritbadges/medicine-merit-badge.asp 3) Research 4b and have your answer ready and written. 4) Assist with taking the temperature of Scouts at camp either prior to Merit Badge University of during. Write down the temperatures of at least 5 individuals.  Write down those numbers (initials only of individuals, no full names). 5) Please read or at least skim, the Merit badge Booklet "Medicine".

Moviemaking: Requirement 4 should be completed before class.   

Music: Scouts should choose and complete one of the following: requirement 3A, 3B or 3C and be prepared to report on it during class. (For 3a- The Scout should write no fewer than 10 complete sentences describing a live performance, or no fewer than 5 complete sentences describing recordings from two of the music genres; For 3b- the Scout should be able to discuss the interview in detail, taking notes is a good idea; For 3c- A signed note from the Scoutmaster is required for verification); Requirement 4 (Select one)- (For 4a- the Scoutmaster needs to verify and sign off on the information; 4b- the written music must be a composed piece not merely random notes on a staff; 4c- make a traditional instrument, not merely a novelty or two instrument  **Scouts must bring their instrument and music repertoire to class**) 

Public Health: Requirements 1, 7, 8 should be completed before this class. 

Radio: There are no pre-requisites for this merit badge

Rifle: There are no prerequisites for this class.

Salesmanship: Scouts should bring evidence of completion of requirements 5 & 6 and be prepared to discuss them.

Scouting Heritage: There are no prerequisites for this class.

Search and Rescue:   4. Find out who in your area has authority for search and rescue and what their responsibilities are. Discuss this with your counselor, and explain the official duties of a search and rescue team. 5. Working with your counselor, become familiar with the Incident Command System. You may use any combination of resource materials, such as printed or online. With your counselor, discuss the features of the ICS and how they compare with Scouting’s patrol method.

Traffic Safety:  There are no prerequisites for this class.

Welding: No open-toed shoes. Must wear long-sleeved pants and shirt.

Woodworking: There are no prerequisites for this class. 

LOTOSR Merit Badge College Refund Policy: 

Refund requests must be submitted in writing to david.harris@scouting.org prior to October 2nd, 2020. If the refund is granted, a 20% readiness fee will be withheld. After October 2nd, no refunds will be granted, no exceptions - other than for cancellation of a class.  A unit leader, parent, or Scout may only request a refund of the fees under the following conditions:

     1 - Illness or serious accident of the Scout prevents his or her attendance at the Merit Badge College.

     2 - A family illness or an emergency prevents the Scout's attendance at the Merit Badge College.
