  • Scouts MUST have signed and completed and turned in the parent consent release form in order to race.

  • All drivers must wear protective gear.
  • When cars are released by starter, drivers should stay in their own lanes.
  • No pumping or pushing with the feet is permitted.
  • After driving, the Scout returns Cubmobile to Starting Line.

Additional “Day of the Race” information

  • Visitor/Participant parking in designated areas only! Safety First!
  • One race car for each Den Team, Maximum 8-10 racers per Den Team - combine your scouts to make this happen.
  • Each Scout will drive twice, each time in a different lane.
  • There will be an adult monitor for staging cars to race - no crowded lines - If your car is not ready; it will be taken out of line and the next available car will race.
  • Times are recorded and are averaged to get standing for Individuals and teams.
  • Times are recorded by the number assigned on the Scouts tag, not the Scout's name
  • If a Scout is listed as having two times recorded, no further times will be accepted. This is regardless of which lane the times were recorded from
  • If a Scout only records one time in the race, his time will be discarded as if he didn't race at all
  • If a Scout runs his Cubmobile off the track, the time is still running. The Scout and his Cubmobile should continue the race from where he left the track to the finish line (time keeps running). The only exception is if the scout runs off track within the first 10 feet after the start ramp, they may be allowed to restart their time and not be penalized. The Event Director or designee has final say as to whether time will start over or not.
  • If a car has any safety equipment failure during racing the car should be repaired before others use the car or the car should be pulled and not use.
  • Any Special Needs will be accommodated in keeping with the tenants of BSA. Please indicate these needs when registering your Scout, not on race day. It is harder to accommodate these cases on short notice.
  • Every effort will be extended to allow every Scout to race
  • Participation is limited to registered Cub Scouts only. No Den Chiefs/Boy Scouts are to participate as pushers or drivers. Den Chiefs/ Boy Scouts may participate as volunteers with the District to run the event.

The Car Must Have/Have Nots

  • A car must have a friction brake that is properly adjusted to allow the car to stop without picking the car up.
  • The rear seat height must be taller than any scout riding the car. (It is suggested to packs to have a few cars of different heights and lengths for different sized scouts)
  • No car shall have a steering wheel or anything in front of the driver.  All steering must be with rope and feet based on the pivot.
  • No car shall be enclosed. Neither sides or a front will be allowed unless approved by inspection.
  • No spoke wheels allowed.  If the wheels are spoked or anything but solid they must be sufficiently covered to prevent anything getting caught in them in the race.
  • The car shall not have excessive weight added.  You can make the necessary safety and strength improvements to the base plan but no unnecessary weight shall be added to improve performance.  That shall be the sole decision of the car check in volunteers as to what qualifies as safety improvement.
  • The safety blocks must be attached tightly, and evenly. They are crucial to limiting the steering. The road is relatively flat and smooth so a large steering radius is not needed.

Updated safety changes

  • Added height to back rest. Must be above helmet. (Helps eliminate Whiplash)
  • Add Floor to front of the car.(Keeps scout from dropping feet off car)
  • 1/8 max spacing between frame and Safety block.
  • Wheels- no open spokes allowed.
  • Seat belt must be attached to the frame and buckle MUST be metal. Car seatbelt style. (no plastic clips, Velcro or buckles will be permitted)
