2008 Boy Scout Summer Camp
The Great Rivers Council is proud to offer four exciting weeks filled with program opportunities and advancement opportunities for your Scouts. Summer camp is a full experience, not just a place to earn merit badges. Hohn Scout Reservation In 2008 we will have four sessions at the Hohn Scout Reservation near Laurie, MO. Hohn spreads across over 400 acres, including a mile of shoreline on the Lake of the Ozarks. This allows the camp to offer an expanded selection of waterfront merit badges and activities including Small-boat Sailing, Motorboating, and Waterskiing in addition to the aquatics merit badges that other camps offer. Hohn also has a climbing tower, natural rock face climbing, and a COPE course with low and high events. The camp has ten campsites, each with at least one pole shelter, water source, and latrine. There are concrete floors for the tents. The camp also has two large showerhouses. Patrols cook in their campsites at Hohn. 2008 Summer Camp is shaping up to be one of the best yet. Scouts will have even more to choose from in 2008. Look for new merit badge offerings, including Communications, Horsemanship and Radio. We are also dramatically expanding the Sons of Daniel Boone program. As always, Scouts will have the option of following a traditional merit badge track with classes throughout the week, and special programs for older Scouts such as the Outback Rangers. Sons of Daniel Boone (SDB) members will also have the option of participating in their own program, which will include program activities such as climbing, Horseback, float trips, sailing, caving, black powder, tomahawk throwing, ceremonies and more. And there will plenty for the leaders to do as well. Training minded leaders can take part in Scoutmaster Specific Training and Outdoor Leader Skills classes. We also have a new group forming, the Volunteer Camp Commissioner Corps will assist with unit service, campsite inspections and leader training programs. Leaders will also have a role in coordinating the Sons of Daniel Boone activities. As you can see, there are more reasons than ever for Scouts young and old to come to camp in 2008. Reservations are already being accepted. We look forward to seeing you at camp!
Each session begins Sunday afternoon and concludes Saturday morning.
