Day Camp |

Cub Scout day camp is a vital part of the Cub Scout program. It keeps Cub Scouts interested in Scouting through the summer months. It also provides activities that are not be available in a pack program and gives Cub Scouts the opportunity to meet Scouts from other areas.
All Cub Scout day camps meet the standards prescribed in the current issue of the National Standards for Local Council Cub Scout / Webelos Scouts Day Camps.
The district activities chairman recruits day camp directors and program directors by September 1. All day camp directors and program directors will have a planning and orientation meeting in September. No day camp director or program director should begin planning the details of their district’s day camp until after this meeting. At this meeting, the Great Rivers Council’s day camp plan will be established by the day camp leadership.
The Great Rivers Council day camp chairman will coordinate the district day camps. The district day camp director appoints program area directors and necessary staff to run the day camp program. The appointments should be secured by April 1.
All day camp directors and program directors need to be certified. This certification can be obtained at National Camping School offered in St. Louis (January 23-25) or Kansas City (May 14-16) (preference for St. Louis course). The Great Rivers Council will offer BB, archery, Youth Protection and CPR/First Aid training in April for the day camp staff.
The Great Rivers Council will also provide the promotional mailing that will be sent out to all cubmasters during February and to all registered Cub Scouts during March. Day camp directors and program directors will need to do promotion at roundtables beginning in February and coordinate pack visits to promote day camp within the pack themselves or through their day camp promotion team.
The directors and program directors should provide a training meeting for their staff 60 to 120 days before day camp begins at the day camp site. This is when the pre-camp inspection should occur. The Great Rivers Council inspection teams will visit each day camp during the week of the respective day camp.
District day camps will take place in June, July or August, and will avoid scheduling conflicts with resident camp. Day camp dates and locations should be secured by January 15 and be from three to five days or evenings.
Each day camp will receive the following:
· National Camp School training for every camp director and program director.
· T-shirt for each youth participating.
· T-shirt for each staff member.
· Day camp patch for each youth participating.
· Insurance (liability, accident and sickness)
· Archery and BB Guns equipment.
· Other program supplies as budgeted.
· Promotion through direct mail, brochures, roundtables, www.bsa-grc.org and The Pilot.
The cost of day camp will be $45 per youth, $40 if turned in by April pack meeting to Cubmaster. Cubmasters must turn in all payments by May 1. Payments after June 1 will be $50. This fee includes a t-shirt, patch and all program supplies. Each camper is responsible for his own lunch or dinner and for transportation to and from camp. Each pack must supply one walking leader for every five Cub Scouts in attendance. One t-shirt will be provided to the pack for every five Cub Scouts in attendance for their walking leaders who attend every day/evening of camp. Additional t-shirts may be purchased for $6.
