Great Rivers Council

Contingent Troop for the

2010 National Scout Jamboree

100th Anniversary of Scouting!

The Great Rivers Council is accepting applications and deposits for one Troop of 36 Scouts and four adult leaders to attend the 2010 National Scout Jamboree at Fort A. P. Hill in Virginia.

The Great Rivers Council contingent Troop will leave on or about Friday, July 23, 2010 and return by Thursday, August 5, 2010.  The exact dates will be determined as travel arrangements are confirmed.

The Great Rivers Council fee for Scout participants will be $2,100.00.  The Council Troop will tour the Washington, D.C. area for two days before arriving at the National Jamboree.  Youth registration forms (doc and pdf) and adult leader application forms (doc and pdf) are available.

Since 1937, more than 654,000 Scouts and leaders have shared the jamboree experience at 16 national Scout jamborees.  Now, 100 years after Scouting reached the United States, it’s your turn to celebrate!

The jamboree program reflects the skills of Scouting--physical fitness, environmental conservation, our national heritage, and the true spirit of Scouting.  Surely you can see yourself rappelling, discovering scuba, kayaking, rafting, and sailing.  Or experience trap shooting, archery, bikeathlons, buckskin games, confidence courses, the conservation trail, and more!  Other activities include an incredible merit badge midway, arts and sciences displays, a re-creation of Baden-Powell’s original Scout camp on Brownsea Island, an American Indian village, regional entertainment stages, and many other activities. The arena shows are a highlight for all participants.  The jamboree is Scouting at its very best!  See www.bsajamboree.org

Scout participants must be at least First Class Scouts.  They must have completed the sixth grade or be at least 12 years of age by July 1, 2010, but not have reached their 18th birthday by August 4, 2010.  All Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts must participate in a prejamboree training experience; file a complete Personal Health and Medical Record with the Council adult leadership prior to the prejamboree training; have been active in a troop or team for at least six months prior to July 1, 2010; and be approved by the unit leader and local Council.

Adult leaders for the Council Troop will be selected by the Council Jamboree Committee.  Adult leader applications are due to the Council by February 2, 2009.

There will also be opportunities for both Youth Staff (over the age of 18 and born between August 4, 1989 and July 26, 1994) and Adult Staff (born before July 26, 1989).
