Summer 2008
Cub Scout Family & Resident Camp

Summer 2008 will be here before you know it, and before too long Cub Scouts all over the state will be emerging from their dens to enjoy the longer days, ample sunshine and warmer weather.

That means it's time to start making plans for the summer Cub Scout camping season. Summer Camp 2007 was great and this year will be even better. In 2008 we will offer three distinct programs for Cub Scouts (and parents/leaders) to enjoy: Cub Scout Family Camp, Cub Adventure Camp and Webelos Camp.

Below are descriptions for each of our programs. Click here for a registration form.

Families registering for family camp will receive a packet containing additional information regarding arrivals, departures, physical forms, equipment needs and camp policies. The same information for Cub Adventure and Webelos Camp will be included in the leaders manual that will be distributed to Cub Masters and Den Leaders in early spring.

CUB SCOUT FAMILY CAMP

The Cub Scout Family Camp program is a perfect way for a Cub Scouting family to enjoy a camping experience. It is also the ideal opportunity to experience outdoor camping for the first time in a safe BSA environment. This program allows the family to participate in all kinds of activities together. Cubs and their families will be able to test their skills at the BB gun and archery ranges, play at the waterfront, cast a line in our lake, learn about our natural world, hike around camp and more. A highlight of this program is the evening campfire.

Families may register for family camp individually or as part of a group from their pack or den.

The Family Camp program is well organized and run by a trained staff, and is a perfect way to expose a future Boy Scout to the outdoor camping experience.

Family Camps are held at two separate locations: the Hohn Scout Reservation located in Laurie, Missouri, at the Lake of the Ozarks, and Camp Thunderbird, located 4 miles from Cairo, Missouri, near Moberly. The scheduled Family Camps for 2008 are May 3-4 (Hohn and Thunderbird); June 21-22 (Thunderbird); June 28-29 (Hohn); and July 18-19 (Thunderbird).

Cost: $40 Scout and Parent/Guardian ($50 after 5/15/08), additional family members $20. Includes two meals, program and souvenir for each attendee.

CUB ADVENTURE CAMP (Wolf/Bear)

Cub Adventure Camp offers a terrific three day/two night program for Cubs of all ages. Cubs register and attend along with others from their pack or den. Each day offers a variety of structured activities including pellet guns, archery, paddle boats, swimming, ice blocking, crafts, games, rock throwing range, hikes and much more. Many of the activities will satisfy advancement requirements for Wolf, Bear or Webelos ranks.

Packs/Dens are expected to provide adequate leadership for their unit at a ratio of one leader per five Scouts with a minimum of two leaders per campsite.

Cubs who are not able to attend with their den or pack have the opportunity to attend with a parent (1 - 1 ratio, sorry, no siblings) through our `Pioneer Partners' program. Pioneers and their partners will be able to participate in all the scheduled activities and will share a campsite with other pioneers from around the council.

Cost:$50 Scout ($60 after 5/15/08), adults/leaders $30. Includes five meals, program and souvenir for each attendee.

Cub Adventure camps will be held on three weekends in 2008, all at Camp Thunderbird. Mark your calendars for June 22-24, July 13-15, or July 25-27!

WEBELOS CAMP

Webelos Camp is a five day/four night structured program for Webelos (4th & 5th grade Cub Scouts). Scouts register and attend along with others from their pack or den. To avoid the "been there - done that"' syndrome, we offer separate program opportunities for first and second year Webelos. Each day offers a variety of preprogrammed activities including pellet guns, archery, boating, swimming, ice blocking, crafts, games, rock throwing range, hikes, and much more.

Many of the activities are designed around the requirements for certain Webelos activity pins. The boys will enjoy the out-of-doors, play games, make new friends, learn Scouting skills and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Packs/Dens are expected to provide adequate leadership for their unit at a ratio of one leader per five Scouts with a minimum of two leaders per campsite.

Cubs who are not able to attend with their den or pack have the opportunity to attend with a parent (1 - 1 ratio, sorry, no siblings) through our 'Pioneer Partners' program. Pioneers and their partners will be able to participate in all the scheduled activities and will share a campsite with other pioneers from around the council.

Cost: $100 per Scout ($125 after 5/15/08), adults/leaders $60. Includes eleven meals, program and souvenir for each attendee.

There will be three full sessions of Webelos camp during 2008, all at Camp Thunderbird. Scheduled weeks are June 25-29, July 9-13 and July 19-23.
