Sons of Daniel Boone

The Sons of Daniel Boone (SDB) is the Honor Camper Association of the Great Rivers Council summer camp program, centered around a frontiersman theme. Members are nominated by their home unit based upon their camp tenure, scouting skills and loyalty to Scouting principles. Members advance in the organization based upon continued loyalty to the Council summer camp program, advancement in the scouting program, service, and adherence to society principles.

Mission

It is the mission of the Sons of Daniel Boone to:

  1. Promote and develop participation in the Great Rivers Council summer camp program.
  2. Provide a means of recognizing those Scouts and Scouters who regularly return to Great Rivers Summer Camps over many years.
  3. Provide programming opportunities for older Scouts and adults in camp.
  4. Encourage faithfulness to the ideals of the organization.

Ideals

In the society's oath, members pledge to be true to the five principles of:

  • Duty to God and Country
  • Devotion to family and friends
  • Loyalty to the outdoors and Great Rivers Council Camps
  • Responsibility to those that follow in our footsteps
  • Honor to those who came before

The society's symbol is a fleur-de-lis modified into the shape of a fire, representing light, warmth, protection, `a gathering place'. Members wear the symbol (referred to as our totem) on a lanyard around their neck. Beads on the lanyard recognize service, status, tenure, honors and awards. Greenhorns will wear a totem of four logs lashed in a rectangle to represent the beginning of a log cabin. Each level of membership will have special signs and symbols presented upon induction to that level. The society handshake is to be given between members as a form of recognition.

The Society brand will be an intercrossed SDB with the S being a black snake. The flag of the fort will be made by placing the brand in the center of a blue and white 4 checked background with the society's symbol inversed on the blue fields.
